Get behind-the-scenes to experience the research, education and outreach in marine sciences that makes this marine laboratory unique in the Pacific Northwest. Meet scientists while you learn what’s new on the Oregon coast. Admission is FREE! No tickets required. Donations appreciated.
Hatfield Marine Science Center a unique, dynamic environment for lifelong exploration and discovery. The Visitor Center encourages adults and children to enjoy marine science as they learn more about the natural world. Our exhibits, programs and classes demonstrate how scientific research enhances our ability to interpret the natural patterns and forces that shape our world, and equips us to better appreciate, manage and sustain coastal and marine resources.
The Science Center is located at 2030 SE Marine Science Drive, Newport, Oregon. Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made by email to the HMSC Director’s Office or by phone, (541) 867-0234.
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Open House at HMSC. Interactive research exhibits will feature emerging ocean observing technologies, bioacoustics of whales, video of volcanoes and deep ocean vents, and a new video on the emerging issue of ocean acidification. Activities for children and families can be found throughout the event. Stay tuned for news of special events for Marine Science Day 2017. 1:00 p.m.: Octopus Feeding. Learn about HMSC’s resident octopus, Montgomery. Presented by Oregon Sea Grant in the HMSC Visitor Center.
2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Plenary talk. Topic to be announced.
