A unique opportunity to experience the headwaters of the Salmon River. Chuck Philo will lead this guided naturalist trip along coast range forest and prairie habitats that culminate at a beautiful sphagnum bog that harbors many unique and special plants seldom encountered.
This long and rigorous hike and is recommended for experienced and fit hikers only. The hike is at an elevation of 2,700 feet and is 11 miles round-trip on graveled forest roads.
This event will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Bring a lunch, extra water and sunscreen. This trip is free and open to everyone. Meet in the parking lot of Safeway at 5:30 a.m., 2220 N. Coast Highway, Newport. We will carpool to the trailhead, which is approximately a 75 minute drive.
