Anadromous
An animal, such as a fish, who moves between salt and freshwater for the purposes of spawning.
Anchialine Caves
Coastal caverns found throughout the world which may be isolated from the outside world and contain elements of both marine and freshwater ecosystems.
Anomaly
Something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected.
Anthropogenic
Human-created.
Antibiotics
Medicines which inhibit the growth of or destroy microorganisms.
Apex predator
A predator which resides at the top of the food chain with few or no natural predators of its own.
Aphotic zone
In a lake, the deepest zone of water through which sunlight cannot penetrate.
Apiarists
A bee keeper.
Aquaculture
The practice of raising oysters for human consumption.
Aquatic
Relating to water.
