Beachcombing – which involves searching a beach for items of value or interest – can be a very casual activity or a very serious one depending on the person. Most of us just do this naturally when we’re at the beach because the waves are always depositing curious items on the sand and rocks. Some serious treasure hunters may also comb beaches looking for valuable items, often using technology like metal-detectors. Others may not be collecting anything of value, but rather removing debris and trash as part of an organized beach cleanup. Whatever you’re reason for being there, beaches are some of the most fascinating places on the Oregon Coast because they constantly change – reshaped by wind, waves and weather.
